molo design: Awesome Products
As my first post on here, I wanted to introduce to you guys a really awesome company based out of Vancouver named molo. Their work goes above and beyond the norm for product design as they have a really unique design philosophy: if it ain’t broke, fix it anyways. They tinker with all their designs, using the old to create the new with minor modifications, and have created things from lights, to buildings in japan, to one of their latest creations, the hobo bag.
What intrigues me the most about molo is that they continuously refresh old projects but never in a dull or drab way; everything always looks new again, like a fresh brand new product using a lot of the same materials. More details after the break.
The hobo bag is one of molo’s latest releases to the molo store, their own online shop.
Now, they’ve taken a strong paper, and turned it into a fashionable bag. It unveiled at the Milan Design Show to great reviews, and it has some pretty cool features. The LED light disc inside can be switched on and off (a feature that is still being updated and tweaked) and allows for your shopping items to silhouette through the bag, while you walk around. Its that little bit of innovation that really makes Molo stand out. They also offer felt versions of the bag, and the felt is just recycled material that they’ve kept from previous projects. They never throw anything away, because something can always turn into something else.
To give you an idea of how serious molo takes design, they recently won an AZ Award for their cloud softlight, won best of “create” category for Dwell Modern World Award and won Best of Show @ Dwell on Design – Los Angeles. They are a truly inspiring company, from the inside out.
